Chef’s Tips
- Thawing Fish: Thaw frozen fillets quickly by placing them in a bowl of hot water for a few minutes.
- Broiling: Keep an eye on the fish while broiling to avoid overcooking. The fish should flake easily and appear opaque when done.
- Substitutions: If you’re out of horseradish, use 1/4 tsp of wasabi powder for a similar kick.
Ingredients
- 4 tilapia fillets (fresh or frozen, thawed)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp horseradish (or 1/4 tsp wasabi powder as a substitute)
- 1 tsp oil (olive or vegetable)
Substitutions
- Fish: Substitute tilapia with another mild, flaky fish like cod, halibut, or flounder.
- Soy Sauce: Use tamari or coconut aminos for a gluten-free option.
Instructions
- Prep the Fish
- Preheat the oven broiler.
- Thaw fish fillets if frozen, then rinse under cold water and pat dry.
- Prepare the Pan
- Spray a broiler pan with non-stick cooking spray. Place the fish fillets on the pan.
- Make the Glaze
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, horseradish (or wasabi powder), and oil until well combined.
- Apply the Glaze
- Brush the soy sauce mixture generously over the fish fillets.
- Broil the Fish
- Place the broiler pan under the heating element in your oven.
- Cook for approximately 7 minutes, or until the fish is fully cooked. The fish should appear opaque and flake easily with a fork.
- Serve
- Transfer the fillets to plates and serve immediately with your choice of sides.
Storage & Reheating
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat or in the oven at 300°F to avoid drying out the fish.
FAQs
- Can I grill the fish instead of broiling? Yes, grill the fish over medium heat for 8-12 minutes, turning once, until cooked through.
- What sides pair well with this dish? Serve with a crisp green salad, zucchini noodles, or steamed veggies like asparagus or green beans.
