Chef’s Tips

  • Use lean ground beef to keep the dish hearty but not overly greasy. Alternatively, ground turkey or chicken works great too.
  • Add a kick of heat by including cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the recipe.
  • Browning the onion and garlic before adding them to the crockpot enhances the depth of flavor.
  • For a healthier twist, sneak in vegetables like diced bell peppers, zucchini, or corn.
  • Donโ€™t skip the toppings! Sour cream, shredded cheese, and green onions elevate the dish to a whole new level.

Ingredients

Crockpot Chili Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef: A lean option ensures a hearty but not greasy meal.
  • 1 onion (diced): Adds sweetness and depth to the chili base.
  • 2 teaspoons garlic (minced): Infuses the dish with bold, savory flavor.
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato passata (or tomato sauce): Provides a rich and tangy base.
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth: Creates a flavorful and slightly smoky base for the chili.
  • 14 oz canned beans of choice: Use kidney, black, or pinto beans for a hearty texture.
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder: Adds mild heat and earthy flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin: Enhances the chiliโ€™s warm, smoky taste.
  • 1 teaspoon oregano: Provides a herbal note that complements the spices.
  • 1 teaspoon thyme: Adds a subtle, aromatic depth.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper: For a balanced spice.
  • Salt to taste: Enhances and balances the overall flavors.
  • 2 cups elbow noodles (uncooked): Classic pasta shape that holds the chili sauce beautifully.

Substitutions

  • Tomato passata: Substitute with crushed tomatoes or marinara sauce.
