Lox and bagels is an easy no cook breakfast or brunch platter that is packed full of all the good stuff! With two flavors of cream cheese and lots of fixings, the possibilities are endless!

I’m officially obsessed with breakfast boards! They are such a fun family breakfast idea that provides endless and delicious combinations. It takes just a few minutes to plate everything and the outcome is always gorgeous!

Springtime is here, and there is a lot to celebrate! In my home, all five of us have springtime birthdays, kicking off with Ava’s March birthday, and ending with mine in late May. Not to mention Easter and Mother’s Day wedged in the middle of all this!

And what exactly do we do to celebrate all these holidays? We EAT! Celebratory dishes like this lox and bagels breakfast platter is a must. Chewy, warm bagels with perfectly salted, smoked salmon and rich cream cheese is exactly what the soul needs.

There’s something super heart warming about having all the kids surrounding the table, busily building their plates with all their favorite fixings. The togetherness that a breakfast board provides is unmatched! We just love us some good food and bonding time!

How to build a lox and bagel board

  • Bagels- Start by choosing three of your favorite kinds of bagels. I chose to go with everything bagels (my personal fave!), regular, and asiago.
  • Lox- Grab a couple of packages of lox (smoked salmon). There are usually a few varieties to choose from at a typical grocery store like regular, honey, or dill crusted. In this recipe, dill crusted and regular smoked lox was used.
  • Cream cheese- Pick a couple of different cream cheese flavors to give this dish some pizazz. Fresh chive cream cheese and a homemade jalapeño and cilantro cream cheese were perfect selections for this spread!
  • Pickled vegetables- Obviously pickles had to grace this breakfast board, their saltiness pairs perfectly with the lox! Beet sauerkraut is also a great addition, as it adds color and gut-healthy nutrients.
  • Raw vegetables- Tomatoes, cucumbers, capers, jalapeño, lemon, fresh herbs like dill and cilantro, avocado, and broccoli sprouts all make great additions to your plate.
  • Fried eggs- Everyone likes a god bacon egg and cheese, so adding a fried egg to lox and bagels is the next best thing!
  • Seafood spread- Want to try a new twist on lox and bagels? Grab your favorite seafood spread and omit the cream cheese on your bagel. This combo is insanely delicious!

How to make the cream cheese

For this delicious spread, I used two different kinds of cream cheeses, because I really love having a variety. I could have just bought the premade flavored cream cheese, but I like having control in the amount of flavor, and the freshness of the quality is on point!

Fresh chive cream cheese

  1. Cut one package of cream cheese into cubes and place in a bowl. Mash the cream cheese with a fork to loosen the texture.
  2. Finely chop the chives, yielding about 2-3 tablespoons, and add the cream cheese.
  3. Mix the chives into the cream cheese, then store in the fridge overnight to allow the flavor to develop.

Jalapeño and cilantro cream cheese

  1. Cut one package of cream cheese into cubes and place in a bowl. Mash the cream cheese with a fork to loosen the texture.
  2. Cut the jalapeño in half. If you do not like spicy flavors, remove the seeds and ribs of the jalapeño. The more seeds and ribs you add, the spicier the cream cheese will be.
  3. Finely chop the cilantro, yielding about 2 tablespoons. Add the cilantro and jalapeño to the cream cheese and mix well. Store the cream cheese in the fridge overnight to allow the flavor to develop.

  • Sharp bread knife

Ingredients
  

  • 6 assorted bagels
  • 12 oz smoked salmon
  • cucumber sliced thin
  • 6 fried eggs
  • capers
  • 2 jalapeño
  • heirloom tomatoes
  • broccoli sprouts
  • pickles
  • sauerkraut
  • avocado
  • fresh dill
  • fresh cilantro
  • lemon wedges
  • seafood dip

Chive cream cheese

  • 1 8 oz package of cream cheese
  • 3 tbsp chives finely chopped

Jalapeño and cilantro cream cheese

  • 1 8 oz package of cream cheese
  • 1 jalapeño finely chopped, seeds and ribs removed
  • 2 tbsp cilantro

Instructions
 

  • Slice the bagels in half and toast them. Arrange everything on a large platter, placing the cream cheese, sauerkraut, capers, and seafood dip in small bowls. Arrange the vegetables and fixings so they are easy to reach and grab.

Chive cream cheese

  • Cut the cream cheese into blocks. Mash the blocks with a fork.
  • Finely chop the chives, then mix into the cream cheese. If you have time, cover the cream cheese and let it sit in the fridge overnight to let the flavor develop.

Jalapeño cilantro cream cheese

  • Cut the cream cheese into blocks. Mash the blocks with a fork.
  • Finely chop the jalapeño. If you do not liek spicy flavors, remove all the seeds and ribs and discard. Finely chop the cilantro, and add the cilantro and jalapeño to the cream cheese. Stir to combine. Store in the fridge overnight to allow the flavor to develop, or serve immediatly.
